CHAIR/PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Department of Physician Assistant Studies Elon, North Carolina

 

Elon University, a national university renowned as a model for engaged learning, is seeking a visionary and innovative chair/program director to lead the Department of Physician Assistant Studies. The seven principal faculty members welcomed the eighth class of 39 students in January 2020. The program received Accreditation-Continued from the Accreditation Review Commission for the Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) in 2016 and has been approved by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to grant the MSPAS degree. The systems-based curriculum is 24 months with 12-month didactic and 12-month clinical phases. The PA program is part of the Elon University School of Health Sciences, which also includes the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program established in 1998. Purpose

Provides the essential leadership necessary to ensure the growth and development of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies. Participates in various committees within Elon University and at a state and national level that assist in the growth of the PA profession.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

Administrative

  • Responsible for the organization, administration, continuous review/analysis, and planning and development of the Supervises the medical director, faculty, and staff in all activities related directly to the program.
  • Responsible for all activities related to ARC-PA
  • Responsible for departmental budgets and ensure adequate funding to meet departmental goals and objectives.
  • Conducts annual performance appraisals of all staff and annual

  • Assists in student recruitment and
  • Serves as spokesperson for the department and participate in public relations/development office activities at the local, state, and national
  • Serves on Elon University committees based on policies described in the Faculty
  • Serves on the School of Health Sciences leadership team, creating shared vision and commitment to strategic planning and institutional

Educational

  • Provides leadership and support for faculty
  • Creates expectations and opportunities to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion within the Department of Physician Assistant Studies and the School of Health
  • Coordinates the maintenance and review of program
  • Participates in the maintenance and review of all materials on the Elon University Department of

Physician Assistant Studies web site, brochures, and student handbooks.

  • Plans and participates in student orientation. Clinical
  • Maintains clinical certification at the national
  • Maintains state Miscellaneous
  • Maintains record of ongoing scholarly
  • Participates in community service

 

Supervisor

The Department chair/program director reports directly to the Dean of the School of Health Sciences and supervises the medical directors, faculty, and staff.

 

Requirements

  • Must possess a graduate-level Physician Assistant degree. A doctorate level degree is
  • Current or emeritus NCCPA
  • Hold or eligible for a PA license in North Carolina.
  • Three years of full-time higher education experience, preferably in a PA
  • Previous successful experience required includes:
    • academic program administration
    • classroom/clinical teaching
    • ability to establish a curriculum which emphasizes engaged learning
    • exceptional communication skills
    • experience with budget development and management
    • knowledge of the ARC-PA accreditation process
    • strong support for faculty development
    • a demonstrated commitment to students
