ABOUT THE ROLE The Communications Director will be responsible for leading Future Caucus’ press and media operations to amplify Future Caucus members and success stories, promote new narratives about the next generation of problem-solving, and build the Future Caucus brand. The Communications Director reports directly to the Chief Strategy & Public Affairs Officer, manages communications staff, and provides leadership, supervision, and oversight of the organization’s communications, public relations, and earned media strategies.
The individual in this position will play a key role in strategically advancing Future Caucus’ efforts in support of a more functional democracy, driven by the inclusive and effective leadership of young policymakers. The role includes heavy press and media engagement and will serve as our primary liaison with national reporters; it also includes significant writing, especially blog-like stories related to the impact of our legislator-members from both sides of the aisle. The breakdown of responsibilities is approximately 60% press outreach and 40% writing.
The ideal candidate is a strong, creative writer and an experienced communications professional who will bring sophisticated media strategies to our organization. Communications experience with a state or federal legislative office or agency is preferred but not required.

This position assists with the daily workload to maintain the site, coordinates publicity for student events, assists with social media posts, plus writes, edits and posts to the College’s blog. The position assists with updates as needed at night, on weekends and over holidays and in emergency situations.

Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in journalism, organizational communication, public relations or marketing.
Strong editorial and ethical judgment and the ability to supervise projects and project teams.
At least 3 years’ proven experience in the field of website page and social media platform maintenance using a Content Management System (CMS) and social media management tool.

DC News Now digital producers are leaders in the newsroom. They enterprise and develop quality content that follows the highest journalistic standards and provides a rich experience for our audience. They’re storytellers who are plugged into the community and crush it when it comes to social listening. Digital producers are all about our audience members whenever and wherever they are, and on whatever device they’re using.
The person who joins us in this position will have an audience-first approach in producing and sharing DC News Now content across all platforms including the DC News Now app. We operate as one content team in our newsroom, which means the digital producer will work closely with other content creators including broadcast producers, photojournalists, and reporters.
Our digital producers are at the core of the flow of information. They are in continual contact with members of our community and are key in communicating things out to the entire content team.
Produce audience-first, engaging storytelling through digital articles, videos, social media, push alerts, live streams, and interactive elements
Social listening: monitor social chatter and track trending stories via Chartbeat, Google Trends, and our social media platforms; report findings to newsroom
Urgently and aggressively report news online as it happens
Focus on accuracy and balance in stories and social content through copy editing and training of staff
Produce, shoot, edit videos for DC News Now digital platforms
Generate web traffic through Search Engine Optimization best practices, website management, app management, push notifications, and application of advanced social media skills
Work with all newsroom team members on content coverage, digital-broadcast coordination, and social listening
Use digital and social analytics to inform editorial decisions
Assist reporters and anchors in the creation of native social content
Implement best practices on DC News Now digital and social media platforms
Ensure newsroom upholds journalistic integrity and the DC News Now brand across platforms
Requirements & Skills:

Building Equity and Alignment for Environmental Justice (BEA)’s mission is to foster authentic cross-sector relationships to advance the progress of the environmental movement towards a just transition. ABOUT THE POSITION
The Communications Director will advance two critical areas of work for BEA:
They will develop systems and tools, and facilitate processes that build BEA’s internal and external communications capabilities and infrastructure (e.g. website development, brand guidelines, newsletters, etc). We anticipate that significant time (70%-80%) in the Director’s first year will be dedicated to this area.
They will develop and implement BEA’s communications strategy in alignment with our overall strategic priorities: building the capacity of current and future environmental justice leaders and champions, and making the case for grassroots-centered policies and funding. As part of this effort, we expect that the Director will spearhead communications that amplify our members’ and grantees’ successes and solutions.
The ideal candidate will be fluent in English and Spanish. They can effectively tell the story of grassroots and frontline efforts and are knowledgeable about environmental and climate justice issues. The Director is a sophisticated communications professional who enjoys executing on a broad range of communications activities and is demonstrably skilled at engaging diverse audiences. They have previous experience working as a solo communications practitioner within an organization and enjoy working in small teams. The ideal candidate will have most of the following professional experience and skills:

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Communications Director will advance two critical areas of work for BEA:
They will develop systems and tools, and facilitate processes that build BEA’s internal and external communications capabilities and infrastructure (e.g. website development, brand guidelines, newsletters, etc). We anticipate that significant time (70%-80%) in the Director’s first year will be dedicated to this area.
They will develop and implement BEA’s communications strategy in alignment with our overall strategic priorities: building the capacity of current and future environmental justice leaders and champions, and making the case for grassroots-centered policies and funding. As part of this effort, we expect that the Director will spearhead communications that amplify our members’ and grantees’ successes and solutions.
The ideal candidate will be fluent in English and Spanish. They can effectively tell the story of grassroots and frontline efforts and are knowledgeable about environmental and climate justice issues. The Director is a sophisticated communications professional who enjoys executing on a broad range of communications activities and is demonstrably skilled at engaging diverse audiences. They have previous experience working as a solo communications practitioner within an organization and enjoy working in small teams. The most competitive candidates have a strong eye for strategic vision and a deep understanding of the communications building blocks to make that vision a reality.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Identify and implement necessary tools, processes, and practices to streamline internal, member-facing, and external communications processes.
Develop and execute a comprehensive communications strategy that is aligned to BEA’s overall mission, values, and strategic plan. Identify key audiences, goals, and metrics to ensure BEA’s communications strategy effectively enhances our reach and impact.
Draft compelling content including articles, op-eds, blog posts, social media posts, newsletters, talking points, earned media pitches, and press releases adapting voice and tone to appropriate platform and audience.
Collaborate with BEA team members on content development and provide editorial oversight and guidance.
Create and manage a comprehensive editorial calendar integrating all platforms to ensure timely and effective messaging.
Manage all communications channels, including website, social media, email lists, e-blast schedule.
Engage grantees and partners to develop stories and data that highlight their work and document successes.
Lead the implementation strategy for the ongoing rebranding effort, including website redesign, ensuring accessibility needs are centered.

ABOUT YOU
The ideal candidate will have most of the following professional experience and skills:
People who are Black, Brown, Indigenous, and/or people of color and with lived experience in communities disproportionately impacted by racism and environmental injustice are strongly encouraged to apply.
Fluent in English and Spanish.
3-4 years of experience in a senior communications role in the nonprofit sector, with a focus on environmental and/or climate justice issues.

DETAILS AT A GLANCE
This is a full-time, remote position with a flexible schedule with a salary of $127,000 per year. Assists in multiple production needs for broadcast and digital
Contributes to the editorial process and makes decisions on graphic elements during breaking news situations
Writes for multiple newscasts over the course of a shift
Posts segments and stories on the digital side
Helps work with reporters and write and edit content for broadcast
Research production topics using the internet, video archives, and other information sources
Always maintain ethical and newsroom content standards
Requirements & Skills:
Bachelor's Degree in Communications, TV/film or equivalent experience may substitute
Understand brand building directives
Interact well with video journalists, anchors, videographers, news managers, production, digital and engineering staff
Detail oriented
Excellent verbal, written, grammar and analytical skills
Ability to develop strong news judgment
Possess journalistic integrity and understanding of viewer needs and expectations
Knowledge of media production, communication and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media
Ability to meet quality standards for service & evaluate customer satisfaction
