Job Description

The Department of Art & Art History invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Studio Art in Photography. This is a non-tenure-track, full-time teaching position (24 workload hours) on a 9-month contract for the academic year 2021-22, with the option to renew for 2022-23. We are a NASAD accredited, BA granting, fine arts program in the context of a liberal arts college.

The department seeks an artist deeply engaged in photographic and experimental media processes and technologies whose work displays a deep engagement in theoretical and conceptual practice. The successful candidate can teach all levels of darkroom, digital, and experimental photography to undergraduate Studio Art majors and non-majors, demonstrates knowledge of the theories and histories of photography, and exhibits strong proficiency with digital and analog printing techniques. A secondary interest in teaching time-based media is highly desirable.

Embracing interdisciplinary explorations and promoting student excellence within a liberal arts context is at the core of the department's mission. Candidates will demonstrate ongoing engagement with critical theory and methodologies and a global perspective that embraces diversity and inclusion through their studio practice, teaching, or service. In addition to a primary appointment in Photography, the successful candidate may have the opportunity to teach additional introductory studio courses in the curriculum, including Drawing or Printmaking. All department faculty are required to participate in department-wide critiques and portfolio reviews.
