Rotating relief schedule, 2 days per week 10:30pm-6:30am, 3 days per week 9:30am-5:30pm OR 12pm-8pm if prior shift worked was 10:30pm-6:30am. Rotating every 3 weeks:

WEEK 1- Work Mon, Tues, Fri, Sat, Sun, Off Wed & Thur

WEEK 2 – Work Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri, Off Mon, Sat & Sun

WEEK 3 - Work Mon, Tues, Wed, Thurs, Sat, Sun, Off Fri

30-minute unpaid lunch, Switchboard

Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Switchboard Operator I for the Shapiro Center located in Kankakee, Illinois to perform routine work in operating a Department of Human Services, 24-hour, facility switchboard carrying a heavy traffic load. Talks to individuals during the operation of the switchboard. Serves as receptionist and receives and sorts facility mail. Performs routine clerical tasks.

Essential Functions

• Performs routine work in operating a Department of Human services 24-hour, facility switchboard carrying a heavy traffic load.
• Responds to and maintains records for emergency calls such as fire, medical, police etc.
• Serves as receptionist.
• Receives and sorts facility mail.
• Performs routine clerical tasks involving the operation of simple manual or automated office equipment.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires knowledge, skill and mental developmental equivalent to the completion of four (4) years of high school.
• Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this classification.

• Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.
• Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
• Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
• Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
• Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
