Our role also involves active participation as a department member with a strong focus on student learning, facilitating discipline-related activities, assessing student achievement, providing program advising, and contributing to departmental committee work. Teaching assignments may occur during both day and evening hours across various formats, including face-to-face and online. A typical full-time teaching load is 15 credit hours per term. The instructor is expected to maintain collaborative relationships with the Dean, fellow faculty, college divisions, prospective employers, and the community. Additional duties may be assigned as needed. We are interested in finding a knowledgeable, positive professional role model to inspire our students and work with a strong faculty team. Employs various instructional methods and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives, assessing accomplishments of students on a regular basis, and providing progress reports as requested and required. Formulates and maintains curriculum for assigned courses. Maintains cooperative relationships with the Dean, supervisors, other faculty, the program's Advisory Committee, all divisions of the College, prospective employers, and the community. Participates in campus committees as assigned. Offers a safe and supportive learning environment while encouraging hands-on learning and problem solving. Establishes partnerships with industry stakeholders to enhance learning opportunities, strengthen employment pathways for students, stay updated on technology advancements in the industry, and align the program with workforce needs. Maintains and supervises the use of lab equipment and training materials. Maintains partnerships with our partners in other educational institutions to facilitate seamless transfer for students. Assists with student recruitment and retention initiatives. Mentors students on technical projects and hands-on tasks to enhance their learning experience. Interacts daily with students, faculty, and staff; interactions are essential and occur in person, via telephone, email, and other digital communication platforms. Unless otherwise approved, regular on-campus and/or onsite attendance is considered an essential function of the position.    Minimum Qualifications Associate's Degree in Industrial Automation Technology, Industrial Maintenance Technology, Mechanical Technology, or a closely related field. 5 years of recent, relevant work experience in the industrial automation, industrial maintenance, or manufacturing industry. Demonstrated hands-on experience in one or more of the following areas: mechanical power transmission, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, or industrial robotics. Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new and current technical skills and ideas. Demonstrated strong organizational skills and problem-solving skills. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills to positively interact with students, faculty, and staff. Demonstrated motivation to serve students from all backgrounds and educational experiences. Demonstrated ability to work with a wide array of faculty, staff, students, and general public in a professional and personable manner.   Preferred Qualifications Community college experience. Post-secondary teaching experience. Bachelor's degree in Industrial Technology, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or a related field with 3–5 years of recent, relevant work experience. Experience with industrial robotics programming and integration (e.g., FANUC, ABB, Universal Robots, or equivalent platforms). Industry-recognized credentials such as SACA (Smart Automation Certification Alliance), NIMS (National Institute for Metal Working Skills), MSSC (Manufacturing Skills Standard Council), or OSHA 10/30 General Industry certification. Familiarity with curriculum development and the ability to integrate emerging industry trends into coursework.     Working Conditions Industrial Automation Technology instructors are expected to teach approximately five days per week, with assignments that occasionally include day, evening, or weekend courses delivered in face-to-face, online, or hybrid formats. Work is performed in a combination of an office, an inside laboratory, and classroom setting using technology. The position requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move frequently during working hours. During the course of the day, interact with students, faculty, and staff in person, by telephone and computers. Instruction takes place in industrial laboratory settings where exposure to noise, mechanical equipment, and various materials is common.   Employment Status Full-time, nine-month contractual position with comprehensive or competitive benefits program including health, dental, vision, life, and LTD insurance, a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expenses; holiday, personal, sick leave; tuition reimbursement / tuition remission; and a choice of retirement programs—IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA (defined contribution). These technologies are critical to enable a broad transition to renewable and clean energy systems. The chosen applicant will work with our experienced electrical and controls engineering staff to develop innovative microgrid projects with multiple indigenous Tribes in Northern California. This position is expected to start in July 2025, and is based at the Schatz Center in Arcata, CA. The exact start date is negotiable. Our team members have the flexibility to either work onsite full-time or alternate between remote work and onsite work, with a minimum of 40% of their time spent at the Schatz Center. During the initial onboarding period, the selected candidate could telecommute, but ultimately will need to live within commuting distance of the Schatz Center. Job Summary As an electrical engineer at the Schatz Center, the successful applicant will help develop innovative projects that aim to decarbonize the electricity grid and provide resiliency benefits to communities. Once hired, engineers are responsible for contributing to and completing work across several projects simultaneously. The successful applicant will report directly to a Principal Engineer and have the opportunity to work across both the electrical and controls engineering teams. Their role will also involve working with faculty, professional staff, and undergraduate and graduate students who are committed to understanding, deploying, and improving these emerging technology systems. After onboarding and initial training activities, engineers work with a Principal Engineer, lead electrical engineer, and/or lead controls engineer and others to finalize the list of projects they will work on. Then a series of hand-off and orientation meetings will be organized to transfer engineering duties to them. On a daily basis, the successful applicant will perform engineering and analytical work in collaboration with project teams in support of project execution. They contribute toward meeting project objectives and deadlines, and support project managers in keeping projects on time and within budget. As an electrical engineer, they also may supervise, coach, and/or mentor one or more early career-level staff or student research assistants. Minimum Qualifications Education and experience Working knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, and methods. This qualification can be met by education, training, and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in a relevant Engineering discipline plus at least five years of related professional experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities ● Proficiency with typical electrical engineering calculations such as wire, conduit, and breaker sizing, and three phase real and reactive power calculations. ● Familiarity with load flow, short circuit coordination, and arc flash concepts. ● Experience designing and/or reviewing designs of electrical systems, including knowledge of evaluation of existing electrical equipment with a view to considering potential modifications. ● Knowledge of and experience with industry codes, standards, laws, ordinances, and regulations ● Knowledge of and experience with industry standard engineering and construction practices, calculations, study methodologies, onsite construction observation and/or management. ● Experience with the development and review of construction plans. ● Experience or familiarity with AutoCAD. ● Commitment to promoting and supporting equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace and with external partners. ● Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. ● Ability to establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships inside and outside the organization, especially with those that may come from different cultures, environments, and different situations. ● Ability to think creatively and problem solve, as well as support colleagues and partners in problem solving. ● Ability to make progress on tasks working independently upon receipt of clear direction and to organize follow-up opportunities for additional guidance from Senior or Principal Engineers as needed to efficiently complete assigned tasks in a timely manner. ● Experience managing multiple priorities simultaneously, meeting deadlines, and quickly adapting to changing priorities. ● Attention to detail and accuracy, and experience maintaining accurate files and records. ● Proficiency and experience using common office software such as MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Google Spaces, Google Spreadsheets, and Google Docs. The chosen applicant will work with our experienced electrical and controls engineering staff to develop innovative microgrid projects with multiple indigenous Tribes in Northern California. This position is expected to start in July 2025, and is based at the Schatz Center in Arcata, CA. The exact start date is negotiable. Job Summary As an electrical engineer at the Schatz Center, the successful applicant will help develop innovative projects that aim to decarbonize the electricity grid and provide resiliency benefits to communities. Once hired, engineers are responsible for contributing to and completing work across several projects simultaneously. The successful applicant will report directly to a Principal Engineer and have the opportunity to work across both the electrical and controls engineering teams. Their role will also involve working with faculty, professional staff, and undergraduate and graduate students who are committed to understanding, deploying, and improving these emerging technology systems. After onboarding and initial training activities, engineers work with a Principal Engineer, lead electrical engineer, and/or lead controls engineer and others to finalize the list of projects they will work on. Then a series of hand-off and orientation meetings will be organized to transfer engineering duties to them. On a daily basis, the successful applicant will perform engineering and analytical work in collaboration with project teams in support of project execution. They contribute toward meeting project objectives and deadlines, and support project managers in keeping projects on time and within budget. Minimum Qualifications Education and experience Working knowledge of electrical engineering principles, practices, and methods. This qualification can be met by education, training, and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in a relevant Engineering discipline plus at least five years of related professional experience. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for programming, graphics development, data-point tagging, and creation of front-end functions for   BAS   systems in new and existing buildings  Co-monitor the operation of the   BAS   and   HVAC   systems, to include alarm package management, performance, programming, building occupancy schedules, temperature set points, lighting control schedules, submeters, histories, trends, and other systems  Proactively pursue resolution strategies for   BAS   operational challenges Implement system optimization sequences which maximize efficiency and align with facilities operations goals and priorities  Provide technical expertise in design development for all capital improvement projects, review   BAS   shop drawings for system modifications for both new and ongoing projects.  Gain understanding of complex control sequences, design documents, and perform   HVAC   equipment condition assessments within existing buildings; provide project management services as necessary  Work closely with IT staff on issues related to   BAS   computers and controllers  Assist the Facility Engineer with identifying and implementing energy and cost saving opportunities (within Mechanical &   HVAC   operations, Electrical & Lighting systems, Plumbing & Water systems, and metering & utility usage of the campus buildings) Coordinate with the Utilities Director and Utility shops supervisors to assist with day to day operations, to include other duties as assigned Provide technical input for the development and improvement of Facilities Operations’ documents & processes as needed  Perform field work as needed for hardware/software installation; device testing, program downloading and programming field points Ability to install building automation controls and energy metering with little involvement from an outside contractor, and integrate all reporting data to the   BAS   system  Completes annual Applied Benchmarking project on an individual or group basis Provide technical expertise for managing and monitoring controls service contracts and system upgrades Assists with analyzing system operations by inspecting trend logs, reports, schedules, applications, hardware and programming  Commission   BAS   and energy management systems Setup, implement, and manage the alarm text/messaging notification functions of the   BAS   systems Responsible for energy gathering devices including electric meters, n.gas meters, water meters, energy meters Responsible for start-up and commissioning VFDs and control actuators/valves Oversee ‘in-house’ controls projects, including budget management Troubleshoot existing systems and complete needed repairs ensuring efficient operation of control systems Maintain and inspect existing systems and make recommendations intended to improve the efficiency and/or safety of the system’s performance Perform programming procedures within the University building and facilities control systems and data acquisition software Responsible for programming procedures for   BAS   add-on systems integration; existing add-on systems include StreamSide Solution’s Events2HVAC and ALC’s Data Connector (used with Lucid Building OS) Respond to customer service calls Coordinate controls work with other trades (i.e., electricians,   HVAC   technicians, plumbers) Supports University and vendor   HVAC   technicians as needed with controls technical assistance Education and Experience Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering/Engineering Technology, or equivalent 4-yr technical degree in   HVAC , Computer Science, Industrial Automation or related field or minimum 6 years of industry related technical field experience including working with   HVAC   systems,   DDC   systems, software control systems, and device calibration.  5 years of   BAS   /   DDC   controls experience, WebCTRL experience preferred.  Experience with integrating equipment of one system into another control system, experience integrating to the WebCTRL system a plus. Demonstrated ability to integrate, maintain and troubleshoot a variety of direct digital controls associated with a computerized energy management system. The position will remain open until filled.
