Are you a digital native who lives for the scroll but also gets a rush from the sound of a police scanner? Do you know exactly how to stop someone’s thumb on a news feed while simultaneously keeping your cool when breaking news hits? First Alert 6 is looking for a hybrid powerhouse—part Social Media Strategist, part Newsroom Command Center—to own our weekend digital presence and be the eyes and ears of our newsroom when the biggest stories often break. This isn’t just about posting links; it’s about owning the conversation and the coverage across every platform we touch in Omaha, all weekend long. You are the heartbeat of our weekend coverage and the voice of our brand online in Omaha. Gray Media is moving fast into the future of media, and you’ll be right at the forefront of that evolution.
Collaborate with our Digital Director to develop and execute a high-energy social media strategy that maximizes engagement and wins new audiences during peak weekend hours. Serve as the primary point of contact for the newsroom during your shift, managing the assignment desk with urgency and precision. Monitor scanners, social media feeds, emails, and viewer tips to identify breaking news before anyone else does. Help define and maintain a unique, authoritative, and engaging voice for WOWT across all platforms. Repurpose and edit platform-appropriate videos and graphics from our daily coverage to ensure our stories reach people wherever they are. Work closely with weekend on-air talent and reporters to help them level up their social media presence and connect authentically with their followers. Dispatch photographers and reporters to developing stories, ensuring our team is always in the right place at the right time. Regularly review metrics and social trends to ensure our strategy is actually working—and pivot quickly when it isn't.
Looking for a candidate with a track record of successfully engaging social audiences and converting users across digital platforms with at least 5 years of experience. Works well under pressure and understands the difference between a "good story" and a "must-cover-now" event. Must be able to edit video in digital formats and create quick, eye-catching graphics on the fly. Have excellent verbal and written skills, a firm grasp of AP Style, and the ability to give clear direction to field crews. Looking for someone who thinks about how a story looks on a smartphone screen before you think about how it looks on a TV. Willing to dig, call, and verify until you get the facts right, thrive in the unique energy of a weekend newsroom and understand that news doesn't take Saturdays or Sundays off. This role includes working three weekdays in addition to your weekend shifts (specific weekday schedule and shift times are TBD). We’re looking for someone with at least 2 years of newsroom experience
