Job Summary

The Public Health Nurse II works in a population-based practice setting in Clark County. The position emphasizes health promotion, prevention of health problems, and harm reduction strategies.  Activities may be focused on the individual, the community, or the systems level, depending on how the issue may best be addressed. Public Health Nurses often work with people of diverse cultures, ethnicities, gender identities, and sexual orientations. 

Organizational responsibilities include understanding and promoting the public health mission of the department; providing courteous, respectful, efficient customer service to all department clients; honoring diversity of all department employees and constituents; participating in department training; and striving for personal excellence in public health work.  PHN II’s are to be knowledgeable about the Quad Council Coalition (QCC) of Public Health Nursing Organizations Competencies into their public health work. 

Qualifications
Education and Experience:
 

Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university and two (2) years of increasingly responsible work experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities required by the position.  Experience should document knowledge, skills, and abilities required by the position.

New graduates will be considered if the candidate had a public health practicum that included experience in a public health setting. Current Washington State RN license and valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment to the position. Finalists for the position must submit to a criminal background check, as required by RCW 43.43.830.

Knowledge of:

Key components of cultural competency; awareness of differences, attitude to examine beliefs and values, knowledge of differences and skills to effectively and appropriately work across cultures.

Salary Grade: Local 335.391 ($30.28 - $39.53) per hour
