Job Summary                                                                                                                            

This management level position is responsible for the supervision of Juvenile Detention staff, programs, and administrative duties. Supervisory responsibilities include planning, directing, coordinating, and reviewing shift and work assignments; meeting with staff to identify issues and facilitate problem solving; monitoring work flow; and evaluating and improving work practices and procedures. The incumbent becomes part of the management team and as such works to ensure that the mission and values of the court are incorporated in work practices. The Juvenile Detention Supervisor participates in the evaluation, development, and implementation of Juvenile Services’ goals, objectives, policies, and priorities; and recommends and implements appropriate changes to these policies and procedures.

 

Qualifications:

 

A Bachelor’s degree or higher in psychology, sociology, behavioral science, or a related field is preferred. The degree must have been conferred by an institution of higher education and have National Recognition of Accrediting Agencies by the U.S. Secretary of Education, and official transcripts will be required at the time of hire. Four years of professional experience working with at risk youth. A strong desire to work with high risk/high needs youth.

 

The ideal candidate will have the following strengths:

 

  • Ability to plan, organize, and manage the programs, services, and activities of the Detention Center.
  • Ability to develop and implement new elements of the Detention Program.
  • Ability to define or assist in defining program goals and objectives; establish methods and means of accomplishing program objectives; implement policies and procedures; develop or assist in developing program budget.
  • Ability to Prepare reports on program performance, needs, services information, and contribute to and insure the evaluation of program performance.
  • Ability to select, train, motivate, and evaluate program staff; provide support and guidance; coordinate staff training; work with employees to correct deficiencies; implement discipline and terminations procedures.
  • Ability to provide information to staff, and other interested parties.
  • Ability to effectively work with persons from all levels in the organization and diverse backgrounds including age, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, socioeconomic status, physical characteristics, neuro diverse, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
  • Ability to effectively work persons including juveniles, parents, law enforcement officials, and the public, from diverse backgrounds including age, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, socioeconomic status, physical characteristics, neuro diverse, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with other employees and the public even under stressful and unpleasant situations.
  • Ability to diffuse difficult or highly charged situations

Salary Grade: M2.820 $5,750.00 - $8,124.00- per month
