Posting Information/Position Summary/Primary Purpose of Position:

The Executive Director, Principal Giving will work closely with the Senior Associate Dean for Advancement and Assistant Dean of Development and will have two key areas of focus. The first area of focus is to identify the School’s most generous (principal gift) donors and prospects, then create and execute a cultivation and stewardship strategy for each prospect. The second is to plan for and own execution on all future fundraising campaigns for UNC Kenan-Flagler. This position will be responsible for the design and oversight of fundraising priorities that drive campaign plans and will need to work closely and effectively with internal and external colleagues. They will help promote the vision and mission of Kenan-Flagler and work with advancement leadership to organize our efforts, create timelines and develop metrics related to campaign goals and objectives. This person will report to the Senior Associate Dean for Advancement and will work closely with the major gift officers, volunteer leaders and campus colleagues to plan and monitor the identification, cultivation and timely solicitation of principal and major gift prospects for campaign commitments in support of Kenan-Flagler’s goals and priorities.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

Three or more years of fundraising, volunteer and project management is required. Requires a strong understanding of direct-ask fundraising at the $1 million or more level, including subject-matter expertise sufficient to advise and collaborate with fundraisers. A collegial, collaborative and accessible work style is essential, along with the ability to manage multiple projects with attention to timelines and meeting metrics.
