Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Dentist II for the Shapiro Center located in Kankakee, Illinois to plan and direct a comprehensive dental program providing examinations and treatment for individuals.  Conducts staff training on dental hygiene techniques.  Serves as a working supervisor to lower-level staff.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Plans and directs a comprehensive dental program at Shapiro Center.
  2. Serves as a working supervisor.
  3. Monitors the dental program to ensure provision of services and documentation remain in compliance with professional and department regulations as well as accreditation and certification standards.
  4. Consults with other members of interdisciplinary team and other professionals in development and implementation of a habilitation plan for each individual.
  5. Conducts staff training on dental hygiene techniques.
  6. Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Requires graduation from an accredited college of dentistry.
  2. Requires a valid license to practice dentistry and oral surgery in Illinois.
  3. Requires two (2) years of experience in the practice of dentistry.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. One (1) year of professional experience performing dental and routine oral surgical services.
  2. One (1) year of professional experience examining, treating and providing complete dental care.
  3. One (1) year of professional experience preparing charts and diagnosing individuals.
  4. One (1) year of professional experience operating and maintaining dental equipment.
  5. One (1) year of professional experience conducting training on proper dental hygiene.
  6. One (1) year of professional experience communicating both orally and in writing.

Conditions of Employment

  1. Requires ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.
  2. Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  3. Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
  4. Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  5. Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
