Responsibilities:

Ensure the team proactively produces a strategy that provides points of access to high net worth prospects ($100K+ capacity), prospects of color, and other potential connectors who already have relationships with the LCV family of organizations through RelSci, family tree, and other mapping techniques.
Manage the process for a regular and consistent refresh of contact information for prospects to ensure access to donors is as easy and streamlined as possible for major gifts officers and outreach lists used by LCV’s president, executive team, and the Major Gifts and Annual Fund Teams.
Develop a broad awareness of LCV and LCVEF’s programs to support the identification of individuals whose philanthropic interests align with our work.
Use prospect development expertise and employ research tools to analyze and make recommendations for potential major gifts fundraising territories and portfolios.
Together with the team, ensure increased racial diversity in each portfolio and continue to identify new prospective donors of color.
Maintain database coding of prospect rankings and estimated gift capacities to ensure accurate tracking of the donor pipeline from individual Annual Fund through Principal level donors.
Work with fundraisers to provide expertise and guidance on accurate interpretation of information and assist with forming cultivation and stewardship plans.
Create an end-of-year suite of reports, including a landscape analysis of all MGO performance and individual MGO performance reports. Highlight overall patterns and trends and map trends year-on-year to maximize performance.
Work with LCV’s State Capacity Building Team and State Affiliate Development staff to support a Unified Fundraising strategy around a planned giving pilot program by sharing expertise and making recommendations around the process of identifying and prioritizing prospects for outreach. As the Unified Fundraising program expands in state affiliates’ fundraising programs, make recommendations for how to approach portfolio creation and create portfolios.
Manage planned giving research and other research-related bodies of work being done on contract by vendors.
Contribute to organizational and department efforts to infuse racial justice and equity into all aspects of our work, including our fundraising.
Manage the day-to-day workload and review of up to three prospect research consultants through Wrike, our project management software.

The Director of Planned Giving shapes and grows a model for a planned giving program that ensures the longevity of the organizations and supports future programs and strategy. The Director of Planned Giving, in coordination with the Vice President of Development Marketing and Engagement, manages the marketing outreach program to quickly scale up the Legacy Society. This position will also work closely with the Senior Director of Unified Fundraising to develop the new pilot program and Major Gifts Team to provide planned giving resources and training and directly engage donors, as needed. They will manage their own portfolio of current and prospective planned giving donors and provide personalized stewardship throughout the year.
Responsibilities: Direct Fundraising
Secure new bequest intentions for LCV and LCV Education Fund.
Manage the LCV and LCV Education Fund Legacy Society, ensuring appropriate stewardship with existing planned gift donors and building the reputation of the Society.
Respond to inquiries by prospective donors in a timely manner. Address donor questions and concerns about planned giving.
Arrange virtual and in-person visits with donors and prospects throughout the country to solicit new gifts, reconfirm commitments, and provide stewardship and other engagement.
Upon notification of gift or future gift intention, ensure donors are thanked. Record donor information and update records as needed in the appropriate database.
Expand portfolio of prospective donors to include more people of color; broaden our current methods of identifying, cultivating and soliciting such donors.
Educate our current and prospective donors about LCV and LCV Education Fund’s programs, including how we are elevating racial justice and equity in the work that we do.
Planning, Strategy and Management
Work with LCV’s State Capacity Building Team and State Affiliate Development staff to build, grow, and maintain a Unified Fundraising strategy around planned giving. Partner in launching the pilot program around Unified Fundraising for planned giving.
Work closely with the major gifts team in the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of planned giving prospects and current Legacy Society members. Lead planned giving trainings and provide planned giving updates on a regular basis.
Work with the Development Marketing Team to generate new physical and digital marketing materials to distribute to prospects and donors and ensure planned giving content on the LCV website reflects best practices. Manage and build out a Planned Giving Resource Library and various planned giving marketing campaigns. Help guide marketing strategy for the program.
Lead strategy with the marketing team Development Marketing Team and to craft email and direct mail campaigns that generate new Legacy Society members.
Manage day-to-day relationships with vendors who work with the planned giving program.
Execute and assist with administrative duties related to planned giving program which may include contract approvals, data entry, and other record keeping.
Travel up to 10% of the time for in-state visits with state affiliate staff, retreats, training, and conferences, as needed.

Qualifications:
Work Experience: Required – 5+ years of experience in fundraising, including a successful track record of personally meeting with donors and closing gifts. Experience directly qualifying, cultivating, and soliciting planned giving prospects, including developing solicitation strategy from identification through stewardship. Experience managing a planned giving program or large portfolio. Preferred – Issue advocacy, organizing and/or political fundraising experience. The SVP of Development is a key leadership position that reports to the President, works closely with the Board of Directors and serves on the Executive Team. The SVP of Development will have the exciting opportunity to lead the largest department at LCV in raising over $100 Million+ annually through a combination of membership, major gifts, institutional giving, and special events fundraising.
The SVP is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction of our fundraising efforts, ensuring that we set ambitious yet achievable goals by providing leadership, vision, and evaluation of the Development department's performance, as well as managing relationships with some of our most important donors. The SVP will lead a skilled and growing team of over 40 development professionals in achieving the organization’s revenue goals, increasing income, and engaging more individuals and institutions in the work and values of LCV (501c4) and related entities, including LCV Education Fund (501c3), LCV Victory Fund (SuperPAC), LCV Action Fund (PAC), GiveGreen (Candidate fundraising), and the broader network of 30 state affiliates collectively called the Conservation Voter Movement (CVM).

Responsibilities :
Development Department Management
Set and drive a clear vision for the Development department that advances organization-wide strategies, goals, and change processes.
Provide leadership, strategic direction, oversight, and the efficient coordination for the development team to execute the development plan and to monitor progress toward these goals.
Lead the fundraising team's creation of a strategic vision for advancing our deep commitment to anti-racism.
Manage, develop, and retain a growing team of 40+ development professionals and actively cultivate a culture of collaboration, openness, trust, equity, inclusion, and support within the department, and in its work with other departments.
Lead the building, implementation, and adoption of systems and practices that support intra- and inter-departmental collaboration, integration, communication, and relationship building. Across functions, programs and campaigns, promote a fundraising culture of trust, support, resource sharing, and transparency.
Prepare yearly and mid-year budgets in collaboration with the Development department leadership team and Finance department, sign invoices and contracts for the department, monitor revenue and expense budgets.
Fundraising Strategy and Implementation
Plan and direct a comprehensive, complex fundraising operation that includes maintaining and growing annual revenues of $100M+ from membership, mid-level donors, major donor principal giving, planned giving, foundations and other institutional funders.
Lead the department’s focus on expanding the racial diversity of the donor and activist base at all levels, and ensure fundraising strategies foster inclusion of donors and activists of color.
Own, manage, and grow a select portfolio of principal gift individual donors, institutional funders, and prospects.
Develop a vision and practices that increase integration and coordination of fundraising across the CVM, which is our network of 30+ state affiliates.
In coordination with NRDC Action Votes & NRDC Action Fund PAC, ensure that GiveGreen, a multi-million dollar candidate fundraising program, is staffed, resourced, and set up to succeed.
In collaboration with the Executive Team, Communications Department, and other senior development staff, create unified and inclusive messages and marketing frames to motivate and inspire individual and institutional donors and prospects at all levels to support LCV and LCVEF’s missions.
Coordinate with operations and campaigns teams to boost the use of data to inform goals and priorities. Work with the development team on short-and long-term revenue forecasting for membership, mid-level and major donor (individual and institutional) programs.
Executive Team Leadership and Organization-wide Goals
Instill a culture of philanthropy throughout LCV.
In collaboration with the Board of Directors and other senior leaders of the organization, help to develop and execute the overarching organizational direction, goals and strategies.

Qualifications :
Work Experience: Required - Minimum of 15 years experience leading a robust and complex fundraising operation, with direct experience and knowledge of the full spectrum of development, including planned giving, gift solicitations, institutional fundraising, stewardship, digital and membership, as well as significant staff management. Experience utilizing analytics, data segmentation and reporting to leverage and maximize growth, including retention, upgrade and lapsed strategies. Senior leadership experience and track record of working across multiple program areas and legal entities. Preferred - Electoral campaign experience.
