Redistricting Data Hub
The Redistricting Data Hub (RDH) provides individuals, civil rights groups, and good government organizations the data, tools, and knowledge to participate effectively in the redistricting process. In service of this mission, we host thousands of datasets in all 50 states, from the census block to the district level, and continue to add new data that is useful for nonpartisan map drawing and analysis. This data is free to the public, and accompanied by technical support and nonpartisan analysis on request.
The Data Collection Fellowship provides the opportunity to do a deep dive into redistricting and contribute to our data collection, validation, and processing efforts. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Contacting county/state governments by email and phone to obtain precinct boundaries and other data
Scraping, digitizing, and validating precinct maps
Researching candidates online to collect and validate demographic and other information
Ad hoc research (quantitative or qualitative) supporting data or analysis requests for RDH or our stakeholders
Participating in external calls with data experts from nonprofits or academics

The Redistricting Data Hub is an essential source of high quality redistricting data and support for working with the data. As a data analyst at RDH, you will become familiar with the nuances of working with geospatial data, election results, and other key datasets. The datasets you produce will be used by RDH stakeholders and many will be incorporated directly into Dave's Redistricting App.
Responsibilities include:
Collecting and collating data from various sources including but not limited to: the US Census Bureau, voter file vendor data, Secretary of State's Offices, and other state and local governments to produce statewide datasets on election results and demographic variables.
Creating and enhancing extant python workflows to engineer said data. These data exist as both large tabular and geospatial datasets. Frequently working in jupyter notebooks for transparency and legibility to external audiences
Supporting other team members to provide census, voter file, or custom datasets on an ad hoc basis
Working with the DRA team to streamline their existing Python/JavaScript data ingestion pipeline.
